2006 DW Pedal Fixin'

this project is completed: day 175 since 08/17/2006

Bought another DW pedal today! But it's broken! And it's drenched in grease! And I'm having a hard time figuring out how to fix it! ARGGG!!!

...anyway...

the pedal has a stripped screw at the heel plate that's totally stuck, I'm thinking of hammering the upperside counter-clockwise so that I could loosen it, but I'm afraid there are moldings beneath the heel plate that holds it in place alongside with the screws.. cos if it has, then the even hammering idea won't make it budge.. :(

Fixed Pedal 1
Fixed Pedal 2
Done!
Actually, it was done 2 days ago...

I went to the music store trying to find some replacement parts but they have none (except for this one piece that will cost more than what I bought the pedal for), so I decided to try tightening everything back together first and see how severe the damage is.

I replaced the stripped screw with new ones and assembled the pedal again, and what do you know - it plays perfectly! Even I didn't change out any parts, the pedal is just as smooth and solid as it was supposed to be. Quiet, too! All the wobbling has disappeared.

So yay! Another DW 5000 pedal for Mati!

Hinge 1
Hinge 2
I. Am. Victorious.
I took some suggestions from my friends on drumsmith and heated the board up before hammering it out, it worked!

Check out the stripped screws and the grinded down hinge... I wonder if someone installed that backwards?

08/21/2006   day 5
Crooked Red Hinge!
Chewed Cam!
Stripped...
Broken down...
In picture 1, the screw at the very bottom of the red plate is stuck.. and stripped.. >_<

If you click on the second pic, you can see the hinge (the shiner red part) is crooked.. cos it's loose! o_0

One the third pic, you can see the pedal also has a very, very chewed up spocket cam.
The teeth should be going around the disc in a circular fashion like a picture of a sun (you know, with the hand-drawn sunrays), but somehow it's now grinded waaaay off. Even part of the sticker is gone. I wonder what happened to the pedal..

So yah... yay for new drum project. boo for stripped screws!
